Miami Location Opens Third Community Kitchen at Chef Creole in Miami Gardens

Food Rescue US – Miami Opens Third Community Kitchen at Chef Creole in Miami Gardens

In partnership with restaurant Chef Creole, Food Rescue US – Miami is launching their third Community Kitchen to help provide healthy meals to those that have been furloughed or are unemployed, first responders, hospital workers or any individual that is food insecure. The kitchen is part of the Food Rescue US national COVID-19 emergency response effort and will also provide employment for the restaurant staff, while also funding grab and go meals free of charge.

The kitchen will also work in collaboration with Carol City Middle School, Principal Derek Negron, local Miami Gardens resident Linda Julien, and Chef Creole’s owner Ken Sejour.

Meal distribution will take place at Chef Creole at 20356 NW 2nd Ave. in Miami Gardens and the kitchen will start distributing meals on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 30th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with additional dates to be announced.

“We are honored to be able to support the vibrant Miami Gardens community by helping a local business employ their staff while also providing their delicious food free to the residents of Miami Gardens”, said Food Rescue US – Miami Site Director, Ellen Bowen.

Chef Creole owner, Ken Sejour, will be offering a complete meal of jerk chicken, rice and red beans, sweet plantains and romaine salad. Sparkling water, donated by Topo Chico, will also be available. The meals will be distributed by volunteers as non-contact curbside pick-up or walk-up while the chefs will be outside grilling up the day’s selection. The Community Kitchen is being funded by Daniel Lewis of the Miami Gardens Music Alliance.

Chef Creole will be the third Community Kitchen launched by Food Rescue US – Miami. The first kitchen, in collaboration with World Central Kitchen, is with Chef Marcus Samuelsson’s Red Rooster in Overtown and has served over 7,000 meals, and the second, at James Beard nominated Chef Brad Kilgore’s Alter in Wynwood, has served 1,200 meals in only two weeks.
