❤️ Gratitude for You and the Food Rescue US Community!

February Newsletter

Dear Friends,

As we celebrate February—a month dedicated to love and connection—I wanted to take a moment to focus on one of the aspects of Food Rescue US that I love most: our extraordinary community of site directors, food donors, receiving agencies, site directors, and volunteers who are in the field every day. And their love for their communities.

In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., as we honor Black History Month, “I am convinced that love is the most durable power in the world. It is not an expression of impractical idealism, but of practical realism.”

Every day, working with Food Rescue US, thousands of compassionate individuals across the country demonstrate their love for their neighbors and communities by rescuing fresh, nutritious food and delivering it directly to people in need. These volunteers turn excess food into nourishment for families facing food insecurity and reduce greenhouse gasses in the process.

What makes volunteering with Food Rescue US so special is how accessible and rewarding it is. Even if you only have 30 minutes during the week, you can make a profound difference. Our user-friendly app connects you with nearby food rescues that fit your schedule—no long-term commitment required, just a willingness to drive from a food donor to a receiving agency. Each rescue that you complete ensures that neighbors don’t go hungry, keeps good food out of landfills, and reduces climate-warming emissions. It’s immediate impact that you can see and feel.

This February, if you’re not already rescuing food regularly, we invite you to join the thousands of volunteers who find it deeply rewarding. And thank you to the rescuers who make a difference in their community by rescuing food already – we appreciate each of you and your contributions to helping to end food insecurity and preserve our planet.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Sharon Enright

South Florida's Touchdown - Food Recovery at the CFP College Championship!

South Florida’s Touchdown – Food Recovery at the CFP College Championship!

This January marked a milestone fifth year of Food Rescue US South Florida’s partnership with Hard Rock Stadium and SodexoLive! to combat food waste at major sporting events. The CFP College Championship on January 19th brought an electrifying matchup between the University of Miami Hurricanes and Indiana Hoosiers, with Indiana claiming victory—but the real winners were our community partners and those they serve.

Beginning Thursday, January 22nd, Food Rescue US volunteers joined forces with Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Partnership to rescue over 6,000 pounds of nutritious food, including prepared meals, fresh produce, bread, protein, salad mix, and desserts. A second recovery delivered another 4,000 pounds to Chapman Partnership, totaling an incredible 10,000 pounds of food diverted from landfills and redirected to neighbors in need. Together, we’re proving that championship-level teamwork extends far beyond the football field!

Changes in Fairfield County, CT!

Every day, we see community needs increasing, and every day, we work together to meet those demands. A critical part of this progress is advancing our communications, programming, partnerships, and funding. As these initiatives take shape, it is exciting to share updates on how each area is evolving.

Please congratulate Haley and Karen on the evolution of their roles and the important impact these changes will have on expanding our outreach and strengthening our networks.

Haley Schulman has been promoted to Senior Program Manager, Sites and Education. Having Haley focused full-time on these priorities will enable Food Rescue US to grow our impact more quickly and effectively.

In Fairfield County, Karen Saggese has been promoted to Lead Site Director, a role for which she is exceptionally well qualified. Karen’s extensive relationships across the community and local government continue to drive opportunities for expanded impact.

These changes are well deserved and will enable Food Rescue US to generate record impact in 2026.
